When I used to hear the word “cardio,” I would always cringe. Cardio days were the days that I would avoid at the gym. I hated running on the treadmill or any other cardio machine. I would always choose the bike machine, because it was the easier option for me. Did I enjoy it? No. It wasn’t until I started to choose my cardio, that I actually enjoyed cardio days.
If you dread cardio machines like I do, then don’t do them. If you love machines, then keep doing them! However, I have found my love for cardio through the great outdoors. I love a good hike. Since moving to Colorado, my love for hiking grows more and more every day. I would rather be panting for breathe looking at a beautiful mountain, than out of breathe on a treadmill.
Here are some great cardio options:
- Outdoor biking
- Walking/running/sprinting on a trail
- Hight intensity interval training (HIIT)- you can be creative with this one!
- Jumping rope
- Machines: treadmill, stair stepper, bike, elliptical, row machine
Choose your cardio! The benefits of using machine cardio, is that you can easily keep track of your progress. Because of this feature, I invested in an Apple Watch. An Apple Watch tracks your progress, heart rate, and calories burned. I would be lost without my Apple Watch. I have heard great things about Fitbits, as well!
