I am in the process of detoxing my house. I am trying to not go psycho and do it all at once. I was told that it helps to go room to room. I first started with my skincare routine (and I am still working on that). I am now starting in my kitchen/laundry room.
I never really saw the point in dryer sheets, but my husband insists that they are useful. Without researching, I add them to our grocery cart and go on my way. It wasn’t until I started essential oils, that I was told how toxic dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners can be. I also found that liquid detergent can contain possible carcinogens, as well. Without breaking the bank, I found a 100% natural liquid laundry detergent for $12 at Sierra Trading Post (owned by T.J. Maxx).
However, the fabric softeners contain chemicals that overtime may be harmful. These chemicals include: benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders), limonene (a known carcinogen) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen). Of course, these ingredients are not in all dryer sheets. I would much rather be safe than sorry!
For most of us, we generally have clothes on 98% of our lives (I won’t speak for everyone, lol). WHY would you want to wear toxic chemicals on your clothes all the time?? That seems dramatic, but it’s true. Since my husband cannot live without a dryer sheet, we met in the middle and I made my own natural ones! 🙂 I ordered the wool dryer balls off of amazon and put 2-3 drops of essential oils on the wool dryer ball. THAT’S IT! I will link the wool dryer balls below.
The wool dryer balls come in a pack of 6 and they can be reused up to 5-7 loads. I haven’t tested how many loads yet, but I am loving the way my clothes smell/feel! I did a lavender wool ball and a lemon wool ball.
